Elmhurst Historical Museum FALL CALENDAR OF EVENTS– OCTOBER 2015

NEW EXHIBIT
September 18, 2015-February 14, 2016
“Beer Chicago: The Refreshing History”
Chicago was built by immigrants seeking new opportunities, and one of the notable crafts brought with them was beer brewing. German-Americans established Chicago’s first brewery in 1833, and the Town of Chicago became official at a tavern that year after a gathering and vote of 12-1. Beer has been a component of Chicago’s colorful fabric ever since, continuing today with the emergence of the home brewing trend and a vibrant craft beer industry. “Beer Chicago” provides a unique and engaging historical look at beer culture, taverns, and breweries and the city’s seemingly unquenchable thirst for beer. Learn about Chicago’s beer brewing history, explore the science of beer making at a hands-on activity station, and encounter the “bartender” at an interactive video kiosk as he shares knowledge about Chicago saloon and tavern history.
