Elmhurst Officials Again Look at Sending Six-story Garage to Public Hearing

It's budget time already for Elmhurst city staff, as the city transitions its fiscal year to match the calendar year. Aldermen will meet in a Committee of the Whole to begin looking at next year's budget. The city approved an eight-month budget through December last spring.

Before the budget discussion, aldermen will meet in their regular City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Among other business, a six-story Addison Street parking deck will again be considered for public hearing before the Zoning Commission. 

Eagle Scout Gunar Klang will begin the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Members of the public will then be invited to speak for up to three minutes on any subject; approval of the consent agenda will follow.

In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda includes the following items:

• appointment of William Huber, Don Meyers, Diane McGinnis, John Poulos, Tim Ricordati and William Shanklin to the Economic Development Commission
• appointment of Maureen Wood to the Senior Citizens Commission
• proposal from John Neri Construction to repair the water main break at I-290 and Grand Avenue for $55,900
• removal of parking restrictions around Elmhurst Hospital's Berteau campus
• extension of the agreement with Bensenville Fire Protection District 1 for Elmhurst to continue to provide fire protection and ambulance services for a residential area south of Grand Avenue through Oct. 31, 2014
• interior side-yard variations for 121 Melrose
• disposal of firefighter gear
• purchase of 2,800 tons of rock salt at an amount not to exceed $179,000 ($57.30 per ton)
• renewal of employee health, dental, vision and life insurance policies

Aldermen will then hear a report on the 2013 estimated tax levy, and the police and firefighters pension funding policy.

A vote on sending a proposal for a six-story parking garage on Addison Avenue to the Zoning Commission for public hearing will follow.

The regular meeting will conclude with reports from the mayor and city manager.

The Committee of the Whole meeting is expected to begin at about 8 p.m. Both meetings will take place at City Hall, 209 N. York St.
