Elmhurst Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst students last week were named among the 16,000 semifinalists nationwide for the National Merit Scholarship program.

They have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,930 scholarships worth nearly $26 million, which will be offered next spring.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, according to the National Merit nonprofit group's news release. The pool includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Seven York High School Students were selected as semifinalists: Gabriel Boutin, Liam Fahey, Caroline Hammond, John Kattoor, Colin Mahoney, Anand Peel and Alexander Sjullie.

Teah Oviedo Navarro, an Elmhurst student who attends the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, was also named a semifinalist.
