Ex-Elmhurst Official Dies, Called 'Pillar Of Our Community'

She held positions in government and civic organizations over the last few decades.

ELMHURST, IL – Elaine Libovicz, who was long involved in civic efforts in Elmhurst, died Sunday. She was 87.

Libovicz was the city treasurer from 2013 to 2021 and the city clerk from 1981 to 1985. She was remembered at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

In her city roles, Libovicz demonstrated integrity, professionalism and a dedication to public service, according to a city news release.

She also served on the DuPage County Board from 1974 to 1978 and as the executive director of the DuPage County Housing Authority from 1983 to 1993.

She also held leadership positions in organizations such as the League of Women Voters, Elmhurst Rotary, Elmhurst Historical Society, American Association of University Women (Elmhurst chapter) and Friends of the Elmhurst Public Library.

"Elaine Libovicz was a true pillar of our community," Mayor Scott Levin said in a statement. "She gave generously of her time, her talents and her heart to make Elmhurst a better place. Her legacy endures in the many organizations she strengthened and in the countless lives she touched through decades of service."

In 2023, Levin presented Libovicz with the annual Darrell Whistler Service Award, which celebrates residents who embody the local volunteer spirit.
