Free Elmhurst Workshop to Focus on Transparency in Local Governments: RSVP Here

BGA conducts these "watchdog" trainings to help citizens stay active and alert in their communities.

The Better Government Association, an Illinois-based "full-service watchdog organization," will be holding a workshop in Elmhurst later this month.

The "Watchdog Training" session will take place from 7-9 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Schaible Science Center in Illinois Hall, according to a release. The location of the hall is 190 S. Prospect Ave. in Elmhurst.

According to the BGA website, the organization "teaches people the tools of journalism so they can keep an eye on local government." Investigative reporters and licensed attorneys lead the workshop and focus on subjects of transparency and learning to use the Freedom of Information Act effectively.

"There is a very big problem with FOIA compliance in Illinois, a state that needs transparency more than any because of its history of corruption," Matt Topic, BGA's outside legal counsel rep, says on the organization's website. The workshop also delves into understanding the Illinois Open Meetings Act.

The two-hour session is open and free to the public, but seating is limited. RSVP here before it's too late. More information about the trainings can be found on BGA's website.
