Game Shop Owner Tricked Into Buying His Own Merchandise from Kids: Elmhurst Police

The man said the Pokémon cards he'd bought from the children were actually his, and they'd been on display in the front window that day.

One Elmhurst shop owner was cheated out of a handful of valuable Pokémon cards when kids tricked him into buying his own merchandise Sunday.

Six children went into the Gaming Goat at 152 North York St. the evening of Feb. 12, according to Elmhurst police reports, and sold the man working there several Pokémon cards.

Later, the victim said, he realized the cards he had bought from the kids were actually his, and that they’d been displayed in the front window earlier that day. The children had committed an unlikely retail theft when they stole the cards and sold them back to the shop owner.
