Group Starts Fire Near Elmhurst Elementary: Cops

In another case, a woman was unable to shake off a date that apparently went bad.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a fire outside a school, a date gone bad, disturbances, a crypto scam, a missing violin, damage and threatening messages. Here is information from the latest reports:

Fire outside school

  • A group of people were seen setting a fire about 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Elementary School, 400 N. West Ave. The fire caused damage to the top level of a piece of playground equipment. An officer saw no active fire, but found soot, charred sticks and leaves. The officer could not find the suspects.

  • A resident in the 300 block of North Maple Avenue told police Saturday a man started texting her the day after a date and that she blocked him because she wanted no further contact. An officer told the man to stop contacting the woman.

Disturbances

  • A woman in the 100 block of North York Street reported Thursday that a woman yelled at her customers, asked other tenants in the building for loans and previously pushed the woman. The woman said the person was living out of her unit. She did not want to sign a complaint.

  • A resident in the 100 block of North Larch Avenue told police Thursday about sending money in cryptocurrency after scanning a QR code on YouTube TV that promised to double any investment. The crime was labeled "theft by deception."

Missing violin

  • A woman told police Thursday that her son put his violin in the orchestra room at Timothy Christian Schools, 188 W. Butterfield Road, and that when he returned, it was missing.

Damage

  • Someone shattered a side window and damaged the steering column of a car overnight Thursday in the 100 block of Fellows Court.

Threatening messages

  • A resident in the 200 block of East Grantley Avenue told police Saturday that a person sent her numerous threatening text messages. An officer told the suspect to stop.
