Letter: 1st Ward Candidate Marti Deuter Keeps Her Word
First Ward needs an organized, hard-working representative like Deuter.

Elmhurst is lucky to have a candidate as strong as Marti Deuter running for 1st Ward Alderman.
Municipal budgets across the nation are faced with escalating long-term expenses, while revenues from real estate and sales taxes have taken a beating. Elmhurst has many advantages going for it, but even we aren’t immune from difficult choices.
As I see it, the economic downturn has left us with a much smaller margin for error. Good strategic choices can give us an edge for decades to come. Resources wasted on poor planning and careless contracts can tie Elmhurst’s hands for years, saddling us with uncompetitive services and taxes.

We need city leaders to focus on long-term priorities and manage city finances to a high standard. The work requires relevant expertise and a commitment to public service. A good alderman accepts the relentless homework; attends meetings reliably; is responsive to all constituents, not just a vocal few; and follows clear-cut ethical standards. Small wonder that candidates of Marti's quality are scarce.
As neighbor to Marti Deuter, I have great confidence that she would serve our community well. Her professional experiences qualify her to analyze complex policy questions and municipal contracts, and to work effectively with council members and city staff. She listens closely and responds without fail. She's efficient, organized and hard working. She keeps her word. I’m confident, because I’ve witnessed the same work ethic and integrity in all her dealings over the years that we’ve been neighbors. The latest proof is in how she has run her campaign.
The 1st Ward would be very lucky to have Marti represent us.
