Masked Man Arrested In Elmhurst Hospital Theft: Cops

The man, who was seen wandering in the hospital, stole an employee's credit cards, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A masked man this week walked through Elmhurst Hospital, entered open staff offices and stole an employee's credit cards from her purse, police said.

The suspect was identified as Marvin L. Muse, 46, of Martinsville, Virginia.

On Wednesday, a hospital employee reported that three credit cards were stolen from her purse in her office, according to a police news release.

Shortly after noon, she was alerted that her credit cards were used for unauthorized purchases at Walmart on Route 83 in Villa Park, across from the Elmhurst city limit, police said.

Witnesses at the hospital told officers they saw a man, who was wearing a yellow surgical mask, a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, appearing to wander on an upper floor.

One witness saw the man, later identified as Muse, enter his office while he was inside and then quickly walk away, police said.

On Walmart's video, Muse was seen buying $2,000 in gift cards with the woman's credit card, then leaving the store, police said.

License plate reader cameras in Rosemont observed Muse's car, police said.

Elmhurst detectives began watching Muse's car in the parking lot at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Rosemont.

Muse was arrested as he entered his car. Police said he still had the woman's stolen credit cards and the Walmart receipt for the unauthorized gift card purchases.

Muse was charged with burglary and unlawful possession of credit cards. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

The police department urged employees in buildings serving the public to lock up their purses and other valuables.
