Elmhurst, IL - Wednesday evening's storm rained down enough water to close only one street in Elmhurst — the Palmer Drive underpass, the city reports.
The storm's first round beginning around 4:30 p.m. poured 1.8 inches of rain in 1.5 hours, and the next rounds dropped 0.4 inches, totaling 2.2 inches for the night, according to the City of Elmhurst.
Lightening struck a tree in the 100 block of Pine, and city crews removed a hanging branch from the tree.

Elmhurst police, fire, public works and a project contractor responded to Jackson and Prospect for minor sidewall collapse on a sanitary sewer project excavation, the city reports. The walls were stabilized and the site was secured.
Some inlets were covered by leaves and landscape debris, leading to minor flooding. City-wide contractual street sweeping is scheduled to wrap up this week, which may prevent similar issues for future storms.
