Chicago, IL - Metra will offer extra service on March 12 to accommodate those attending Chicago’s downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“Riders know the value of taking Metra to city events and that’s why we’re happy to provide extra service,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “Our weekend fares and Family Fares make Metra the most affordable, smart and safe choice for anyone planning to go to the parade and celebrate.”

Metra will provide extra trains and/or expand seating capacity on six of its 11 lines to accommodate the large number of people expected to attend the parade. Extra service schedules for each line are available at metrarail.com under “Good to Know.”

On March 13, some trains on the Rock Island Line will make extra stops at 103rd and 111th for the South Side Irish Parade. Details on this service are also available on the Metra website under “Good to Know.”

All Metra customers should be advised that alcoholic beverages will not be allowed on trains on Saturday, March 12, and on Rock Island Line trains only on Sunday, March 13. In addition, due to the expected high ridership, there is an increased likelihood that Metra will not be able to accommodate bicycles onboard. Customers should also expect slower boarding at outlying stations due to increased passenger loads and train crews taking extra time to ensure everyone’s safety.

Don’t forget about Metra’s rideshare partners, Uber and Lyft. If you’re new to rideshare programs, download the Uber app and enter promo code METRACHI for $10 off your first two rides (new users only). Customers who visit Lyft’s website and enter their phone number will also receive $10 off their first two rides. Both rideshare companies have programs that offer deeper discounts by sharing a ride. Visit their websites for details.

Metra’s $8 Weekend Pass offers unlimited rides, the pass can be purchased on the train or via the Ventra app that you can download at the App Store or Google Play. As always, with Family Fares, up to three kids 11 and under can ride free with each adult.
