Man Fired Shot as Police Checked on His Well Being (Update)
The man died of a self-inflicted wound Tuesday morning.
As police were visiting an apartment in Lombard on a well-being check, a 32-year-old man shot himself early Tuesday. The man had posted messages on social media about wanting to hurt himself, according to Lombard police.
After the shot was fired, police responded in force to the residence in the 800 block of Foxworth Boulevard before 7 a.m. A bullet struck the wall in the hallway as police were outside his apartment. After the SWAT team set up, police entered the apartment to find the occupant dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Just after 8 a.m., the scene was secured by police. Lombard police and the DuPage County coroner’s office are conducting a death investigation.
