Police Continue Search for Missing Elmhurst Man

Thomas Schiavone is considered an endangered missing person.

Officials are still searching for a man with a learning disability who went missing Friday from Elmhurst.

Code Red alerts, including phone calls and texts, went out through the city’s notification system Sunday evening.

Police have used three search dogs, bike patrols and area grid searches in an attempt to find Thomas Schiavone, 67. Officers and detectives have canvassed Schiavone’s neighborhood and interviewed his neighbors, according to Elmhurst police. They are following up on all leads they receive.

Local law enforcement agencies have been informed about the search. Schiavone has been entered as a missing person to the National Crime Information Center.

Schiavone was last seen at noon Friday by his caretaker, and he left his home on foot. He reportedly has the mental capacity of a 10 year old, and he can’t take care of himself, according to the City of Elmhurst. He doesn’t drive, and he doesn’t have a cell phone or money. He does frequent the Metra train to Wheaton, the Milwaukee North Line and Aurora.

Schiavone is 5 feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray and black winter jacket, a Chicago Bears stocking cap and a dark collared shirt, faded blue jeans and white Nike shoes.

Police continue to ask anyone with information on Schiavone’s whereabouts to contact the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050 or call 911.
