Police Looking for Stolen Vodka Find Heroin, Crack

An Elmhurst officer searching a man for a stolen bottle of liquor in a grocery store parking lot found drugs instead.

Elmhurst, IL - Elmhurst police searching for a stolen bottle of vodka instead recovered drugs and a hypodermic needle.

An officer saw James Lange, 33 of the 3700 block of S Giles in Chicago, hide a bottle of Ciroc vodka on April 16 while he was inside Jewel Osco, 944 S York Road, according to Elmhurst police.

The officer watched Lange walk past the final point of sale, and he approached Lange in the parking lot.

A search of Lange revealed he had left the bottle of vodka inside the store, but he was in possession of heroin, crack cocaine and a hypodermic needle, police reported.

Lange was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, attempted retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the car, Marlon Johnson, 36 of the 100 block of W 112th Street in Chicago, was found to have an active no bond warrant, police reported.

Both Lange and Johnson were taken to DuPage County Jail.
