Three scavengers in a box truck who told Elmhurst police they had permission to take plastic Pepsi skids were released before police found out they didn’t have consent to take the items.

An officer followed the three people in a white Ford box truck Dec. 24 as they left from the back of a closed grocery store in the 600 block of N. York, according to Elmhurst police.

The officer contacted them at York and Grand, and they said they had permission to take plastic Pepsi skids. An investigation later revealed they didn’t have permission to take the items.
