Some Elmhurst Residents Without Power: City

City crews are working to eliminate public safety hazards. Then they plan to focus on general cleanup.

ELMHURST, IL – Because of Monday's storm, about 400 Elmhurst residents remained without power as of mid-afternoon Tuesday, the city said.

That means 99.7 percent of power in the area has been restored, according to an Elmhurst news release. The city said ComEd is working around the clock to bring back power.

Meanwhile, city public works crews are clearing streets and sidewalks of public safety hazards. General cleanup is expected to take place after dangerous safety conditions are eliminated, the city said.

The crews are working with ComEd to remove trees that are tangled in power lines, according to the city news release. City workers cannot remove the trees until the utility has de-energized the power circuit.

Any resident that sees exposed power lines or trees tangled in power lines is asked to call 911 and stay away from the area.

Residents are asked to place private property tree debris in the parkway for pickup on their normally scheduled trash collection days. Tree branches should be bundled and cut.

Each bundle, the city said, should be no more than 50 pounds, 4 feet in length, and have no branches more than 4 inches in diameter. Two bundles may be placed at the curb each week without yard waste stickers.

Tree materials too large for the city's trash company, Republic Services, to pick up will require a private contractor to dispose of, the city said.
