Stamp Broker Cons Elmhurst Man Out Of Thousands: Police

The broker cut off all communication once the man wired him thousands of dollars.

One Elmhurst resident lost several thousand dollars last year to a scam in which he tried to buy expensive stamps.

The man, who lives in the 700 block of North Indiana Street, told police he was contacted by a third-party stamp broker, according to reports. The broker told the man he was interested in selling part of his stamp collection, which was valued at a high price. He also guaranteed his stamps were authentic.

The resident reportedly wired thousands of dollars to the broker as bond; police haven’t specified the total amount. The broker quickly broke off all communication with the man as soon as the money was wired.
