Suspicious Driver Tried to Lure Children with Candy on Halloween: Police

The man's description matches a similar suspicious person case from Oct. 18, Elmhurst police reported.

A man in a car approached three children Oct. 31 at about 3:15 p.m. near Third Street and Clinton Avenue in Elmhurst.

The children, ages 5 to 11, were walking on the sidewalk when the man pulled over, started to get out of his car and asked them, “Do you want some candy?” according to Elmhurst police.

The children ran to a nearby friend’s house.

The driver is described as a man, about 40 years old, medium build with short dark hair and possibly a mustache, police reported. The car was a white, older model Ford sport-utility, possibly an Escape, with rust along the bottom of the driver’s side door. It was last seen going northbound on Clinton Avenue toward North Avenue.

These descriptions match a similar child luring case from Oct. 18 near Fremont Avenue and Ridgeland Avenue in Elmhurst, police reported. Both incidents occurred in residential areas within two blocks of North Avenue.

Anyone observing this person or car is asked to immediately call 9-1-1.
