Suspicious Solicitors, Theft: Elmhurst Cops

Police responded to a call about men seeking donations at a grocery store, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police responded to cases involving suspicious solicitors, retail thefts, an injured deer, attempted burglary, battery, threatening messages and drugs. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Suspicious

  • Two men were seeking donations from customers in the parking lot about 3 pm. Wednesday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. One customer confronted the men, but they left the area. The men were described as suspicious.

Retail theft and burglary

  • Eric M. Shaw, 49, of Chicago, and Nicholas Joseph Robert, 34, of Palos Park, were arrested about noon Monday on charges of burglary and retail theft. Police said their crime occurred at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. They were taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Nicholas Fugate, 42, of Carol Stream, was arrested about 8 a.m. Wednesday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St., on charges of burglary, felony retail theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Police said they responded to a burglary in progress. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Deer euthanized

  • A police officer euthanized a deer about 7 a.m. Monday at York Street and Roosevelt Road after a traffic crash injured the animal.

Attempted burglary

  • Someone tried to force open the front door of Elmhurst Coins and Collectibles, 127 N. Addison Ave., between Saturday and Monday. The door's glass was damaged. An investigation is pending.

Battery

  • Police responded to a battery report about 6:30 p.m. Monday at The Grove of Elmhurst nursing home, 127 W. Diversey Ave. A person said another person battered others. The suspect denied hitting anyone. An officer saw no injuries. No charges were filed.

Threatening messages

  • A resident in the 400 block of South Washington Street received threatening messages about 4:30 p.m. Monday. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 700 block of North Eastland Street received threatening messages between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Tuesday. An investigation is pending.

Order of protection

  • Police issued an order of protection to someone about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of West St. Charles Road.

Drugs

  • About 10 a.m. Wednesday, an officer responded to the report of a person who was admitted to Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, and was found to have plastic baggies containing a controlled substance. An investigation is pending.
