This Weekend: Football, Fund-raisers, Reunions, Recycling

If only the weekend would last a little longer.

It's the weekend! Of course there's the usual fall things to do, like football. This week just happens to be extra special because of the York Homecoming game on Friday and the York Alumni Mixer.

Here are a few other opportunities in Elmhurst this weekend. You'll find more events in the calendar.

Saturday, Sept. 28

IC Catholic Prep is 3-1 going into this Saturday's home game against Marian High School, which also is 3-1. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at Plunkett Park. Go Knights!!

Electronics Recycling Event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 235 S. Kenilworth. Bring your old computers, monitors, TVs, DVDs, CD players, laptops, small appliances, printers, vacuum cleaners, cell phones, microwaves, toner/ink cartridges, batteries, gaming consoles and more.

Reunions! York High School's Class of 1968 will celebrate its 45th reunion at Mack's Golden Pheasant, and the Class of 1988 will celebrate its 25th at Fitz's Spare Keys Saturday. Tickets for the Class of '88 reunion are $50, cash only at the door.

Fund-raiser to benefit York Distinguished Alumni Program will be held at the Elmhurst Potbelly Sandwich Shop, 544 W. St. Charles Road. Twenty-five percent of proceeds from purchases made between 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday will go to support this new program. No coupon is necessary.

Sunday, Sept. 29

Gracious Gifts Creative Kids Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. in Wilder Park. The event is designed to encourage kids and families to be active and creative through music, art, fitness and fun. Children have created artwork, crafts, baked goods and more for purchase. There will also be vendor booths representing family friendly, creative, healthy and fun products or services. Music, face painting, bouncy houses, mimes, food and more all will be available at this free, fund-raising event. Gracious Gifts provides emotional, financial and community support to families facing cancer treatment and recovery.

Elmhurst Hospital Steps to Pink Celebratory 5-K: Steps to Pink is a 3-mile walk to benefit the hospital's new Center for Cancer Care that will open later this year at the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital campus. The walk steps off at 1 p.m. at Elmhurst Memorial's Berteau campus and ends at the new hospital campus on Brush Hill.
