Thousands in Cash, Multiple Credit Cards, iPhones and Liquor Among Items Stolen in Elmhurst

An employee at All Credit Lenders, 691 W. North Ave., told police that when she arrived at work at 8:55 a.m. Feb. 23, the money bag containing $2,143.97 was missing from the cabinet drawer. She said she suspected a man who came into the store on Feb. 15 to process a loan. Police said the suspect made the employee feel "very uncomfortable" because he kept walking around the store while she was processing his paperwork. There was no sign of forced entry.

Two air bags were stolen from Howard Buick and GMC, 364 W. Grand Ave., between 9:30 p.m. Feb. 22 and 11 a.m. Feb. 25. Loss is estimated at $1,680.

Someone removed money from an unlocked cash box in the office of Gerber Collision and Glass, 500 W. Lake St., between 11:30 a.m. Feb. 23 and 9:30 a.m. Feb. 25. A mechanic said he saw a man, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a dark jacket in the storage room Feb. 25. Police did not indicate the amount of money taken.

A loss prevention officer told police a man attempted to purchase eight gift cards with a Walmart debit card at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, at 6:34 p.m. Feb. 26. The officer took the card, and the suspect left the store, but the officer believes the suspect was responsible for unlawful use of a credit card at the store on Feb. 25, for a total loss of $826.68.

A resident of the 100 block of West North Avenue told police someone fraudulently charged $505.95 on his credit card account.

An iPhone 5 with a hot pink cover worth $600 was taken from a locker at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 9:40 and 10:35 a.m. Feb. 26.

A $500 iPhone 4S with a gold case was taken from a locked locker in the girls track locker room at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road, between 3:30 and 5:15 p.m. Feb. 27. 

The rear license plate was stolen off of a dealer truck owned by Larry Roesch Ford while the driver was paying for gas at Mobil, 1000 N. York, at 2:15 p.m. Feb. 28.

An American Express card was taken from a resident on the 100 block of South Prospect between 7 a.m. Feb. 25 and 11:52 a.m. March 4. The card was used to make a purchase at Best Buy for $162 and at the Elmhurst College book store for an unknown amount. The victim said the credit card has not left her possession.

A Capitol One debit card belonging to a victim on the 700 block of South Fairfield was fraudulently used to purchase $3,539.09 worth of merchandise on March 2.

A man wearing a red Chicago Bulls cap and dark puffy down coat tried to pay for a sandwich at Jersey Mike's Subs, 297 N. York Road, with a counterfeit $100 bill at 8:20 p.m. March 4. The suspect told the employee, who would not accept the bill, that he would go get money. He left the building and was not found.

A man between 40 and 50 years old, balding, wearing a brown or black bomber jacket with a fur-lined collar and grey hoodie, was seen loading liquor bottles worth $345 into his cart and leaving without paying at Dominick's, 215 S. Route 83, at 2:20 p.m. March 7. A loss prevention officer ran after him. He abandoned the cart in the parking lot and fled in a tan, older model, possible Toyota 4-door vehicle.

A resident of the 300 block of West Grantley was woken by his dog barking at 2:30 a.m. March 7. The dog was looking out the window toward the garage. The resident later noticed the gate near the garage door was open and the garage service door was loose. He did not locate any signs of forced entry into the garage, but the door knob, worth about $20, was damaged.

A purse containing a Blackberry cell phone, $1, a debit card and numerous gift cards was stolen from a cooking classroom at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles, at 10:30 a.m. March 7. The purse was located by a hall monitor in the girls bathroom, but the contents were missing. A suspect was charged with theft and released, and the items were returned to the victim.
