Two Centenarians Among Those Who Have Died Recently

The following eight people with strong ties to Elmhurst have recently died.

Virginia Brumfield

Virginia H. Brumfield, 95, died Oct. 11 in Elmhurst. She is survived by her husband, Clarence "Bud."

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Geils Funeral Home, 180 S. York Road, Bensenville.

Ruth Michaelson

Ruth Michaelson (nee Crandle), 101, of Bensenville, died Saturday, Oct. 12. She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Elmhurst.

Mrs. Michaelson was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; and her grandson, Glenn B. Sandvik.

She is survived by had children, Arlene and Carol; her grandchildren, Deborah, Cheryl and Michael; and her five great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Bethel United Church of Christ, 315 E. St. Charles Road, Elmhurst.

Robert Sherman

Robert J. Sherman, 84, of Elmhurst, has died. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita. He is survived by his children, David, Robert, Robin and Edward; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Kelly, Jillian, Amy, Kristen, Jay and Carter; and his great-grandchild, Ellie.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Pedersen Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York Road, Elmhurst.

Joseph Bell

Joseph F. Bell, 91, died Monday, Oct. 14. He was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elmhurst, and he worked for Andrew Corp until his retirement in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; his children, Alison and Gina; and his grandchildren, Andy, Lizzie, Katie , Kelly and Haley.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst.

Adeline Zaidel

Adeline Zaidel, 92, of Stevens Point, Wisc., formerly of Lombard, died Sunday, Oct. 13, in an automobile accident. She worked at York High School in Elmhurst for 21 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley. She is survived by her children, Lenard and Doris; her grandchildren, Dawn, , Jerome, Donald, Stacy and Michelle.

Services were held Friday in Wisconsin.

Joanne Elhage

Joanne Elhage, 103, formerly of Glen Ellyn and Elmhurst, died Oct. 1. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, George.

Dorothy M. Kelley, a long-time Elmhurst resident, died Oct. 9. 

Services were held Oct. 12 at Gibbons Funeral Home.

Daniel O'Connell

Daniel T. O'Connell, 91, of Elmhurst, died Oct. 12. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Megan, Clare, John, Mark and Daniel; his eight grandchildren; and his one great-grandchild.

Services were held at Visitation Catholic Church in Elmhurst.
