Uber Driver Battered In Elmhurst: Cops

In another case, a store was the victim of a distract-and-steal maneuver, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving an Uber battery, a distract-and-steal maneuver, truck burglaries, a domestic disturbance and a scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Uber battery

  • An Uber driver told police that his passenger battered him and then fled about 1:30 p.m. Saturday at York Street and Butterfield Road. Officers were unable to contact the suspect. An investigation is pending.

  • A man distracted a clerk about 8 p.m. Sunday at Williams Liquors, 925 S. York St., while two others ran out of the store with several cases of liquor. They drove away in a black Infiniti sedan. An investigation is pending.

Battery

  • A woman told police that someone else pushed her about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Shell gas station, 218 E. Butterfield Road. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements and no visible injuries.

  • A red Schwinn Shimano bicycle was left for several days in front of the police station, 125 E. First St. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Refusing to leave

  • A man refused to leave Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, after being released about 10 p.m. Wednesday. An officer issued him a no-trespass notice.

Truck burglaries

  • Several Freightliner trucks were broken into and their common powertrain controllers were stolen between 2:40 a.m. and 3 a.m. Thursday at Goldmax Carrier, 179 W. Spangler Ave. The suspects wore face masks, hoodies, gloves and long pants. An investigation is pending.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police were called to a domestic disturbance about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of North Michigan Street. Both people complained about a door being shut on them. No arrests were made because of a lack of physical evidence. Both people agreed to separate for the night.

Suspicious

  • A resident in the 600 block of South Sunnyside Avenue told police that he received a message Oct. 3 from someone at an unknown number who knew his name. On Thursday, he received a text from the same number asking about his Christmas lights.

Theft

  • A resident in the 500 block of South Berkley Avenue told police that he left his Ego 56V mower unattended in his front yard about noon Friday. When he returned, the mower was gone. An investigation is pending.

Scam

  • A resident in the 300 block of West Butterfield Road received a message through Facebook Messenger on Friday advising him to send bitcoin. Police recommended against doing so.

Drugs

  • A baggie containing a controlled substance was found about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot at the Target Sortation Center, 615 W. Lake St.

Unwelcome

  • A resident in the 300 block of East Church Street told police that her ex-husband showed up at her house about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The man was served with a no-trespass notice.

Grocery store disturbance

  • A person caused a disturbance about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. The person was given a no-trespass notice.
