Villa Park Felon Caught With Gun: Police

The man could face six to 30 years in prison, the county's top prosecutor said.

VILLA PARK, IL – A twice-convicted felon from Villa Park was found with a loaded gun during a traffic stop in Oak Brook, authorities said Wednesday.

Joshua Griffin, 31, who lives in the 500 block of North Third Avenue, was arrested on a charge of felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and misdemeanor unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, police said.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Oak Brook police stopped Griffin for suspended license plates near 22nd Street and Park View Drive, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

Officers discovered a loaded Taurus .40-caliber handgun in the glove box, police said.

Because of the gun violation, Griffin faces six to 30 years in prison, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release.

Griffin was ordered to stay in the DuPage County Jail until his trial.
