Why Did Man Flee Oak Brook, Aurora Police?

He has no known warrants, but now faces felony charges, authorities said.

OAK BROOK, IL – A Berwyn man ran a couple of stop signs in Aurora early Wednesday morning, so an officer tried to stop him.

The man, 21-year-old Armoni Flowers, complied momentarily, then sped away, leading officers in Aurora and then Oak Brook on chases, police said.

Police ultimately caught Flowers, but it was unclear why he fled. Authorities know of no warrants seeking his arrest.

About 1 a.m., the Aurora officer saw Flowers, who was driving a 2001 black Toyota Highlander, commit the stop sign violations, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors. He is accused of then reaching speeds of 80 mph in a 40 mph zone before entering Interstate 88.

About 1:30 a.m., an Oak Brook officer saw Flowers at I-88 and Route 83, with the suspect reaching 100 mph on the expressway, police said.

Officers then successfully deployed tire deflation devices known as "stop sticks," police said. Flowers crashed near Interstate 290 and 25th Street in Bellwood.

Flowers then ran away, climbing over a fence into a construction yard, but he was apprehended, the news release said.

Flowers was charged with two counts of felony aggravated fleeing and eluding and multiple misdemeanors and petty traffic offenses, including reckless driving, police said.
