Woman Tries To Enter Elmhurst House: Cops

Four years ago, she was found sleeping in a local home, police said. She was not a guest.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving trespassing, car break-ins, false identification, domestic battery, DUI, bike theft and vandalism. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Trespassing

  • A 63-year-old Des Plaines woman was arrested about 1 p.m. Tuesday on charges of criminal trespass to land after notice that entry is forbidden and disorderly conduct. Police said she tried to enter a house in the 300 block of South Lawndale Avenue. She was released. In October 2021, the same woman was charged with trespassing after a resident discovered her sleeping in her screened-in back porch, police said.
  • Police were called about 7 a.m. Tuesday at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., for a person who has opened alcohol in the store and started drinking it without paying. The person was served with a no-trespass notice.

Car break-ins

  • A car's rear passenger's side window was shattered about 5 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of South Kent Avenue. The resident found the garage door was open. The resident saw two men near the car. They then ran into a small black SUV and drove away. A few minutes earlier, a rear passenger's side window was broken at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The cars were a few blocks from each other. Between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, a rear passenger's side window was shattered in the 400 block of South York Street. Nothing was reported missing in the car burglaries.

False identification

  • A Bensenville man and a Wood Dale man, both 19, were cited about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Amigas Restaurant, 671 W. North Ave., on charges of false use of identification. Police said the men tried to buy alcohol with the IDs. They were released.

Domestic battery

  • A 38-year-old Glen Ellyn man was arrested about 1 p.m. Wednesday at Route 83 and St. Charles Road on two counts of domestic battery and one count of theft. Police said the man threw a water bottle at another person, causing injuries. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Police were called about a man hitting a woman about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near St. Charles Road and Route 83. The pair then got into a green Jeep and drove away. Officers could not find them.

DUI

  • A 34-year-old Bensenville man who lives in the 200 block of Roosevelt Avenue was arrested about 8:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Stratford Avenue on charges of DUI (drugs), unlawful possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession by a driver, stopping where prohibited and improper use of registration. Police said the man was driving into oncoming traffic. They said he had PCP, a mind-altering drug. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Bike theft

  • A black Priority Cruiser bicycle with brown tires and a suitcase holder was stolen between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday at First Street and Addison Avenue. The bike was unlocked.

Vandalism

  • About 8 a.m. Wednesday, an officer saw symbols and words painted in several places on the sixth level of the parking garage at 145 N. Addison Ave. Public works was notified.
