York Community High School Student Selected for ISA Planning Committee
Matthew Olson is one of eight students chosen from around the state.
Matthew Olson, who is a York Community High School junior in Elmhurst, was recently chosen as one of eight student representatives to serve on the 2017 Illini Summer Academies Planning Committee.
The organization operates under the Illinois 4-H Extension Service, according to a release, and eight students were chosen from schools around the state. Sixteen total students were nominated for the opportunity.
The ISA program outlines its four main goals as follows:

- Promote the University of Illinois Extension 4-H program
- Promote the University of Illinois
- Provide a hands-on, career development experience through the Academies
- Provide a positive youth development experience
The students will participate in several teleconferences and a retreat next November.
According to Melea Smith, the director of communications and public relations at Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205, Olson participated last year in the Electrical and Computer Engineering seminar in which he attended classes on the University of Illinois engineering campus, completed projects and lived in a U of I dorm in Urbana.

Throughout this school year, Olson and other chosen members of the committee will help to plan educational and recreational activities for the more than 400 participants who will be selected to attend next summer’s programs.
Olson also received a scholarship to attend next year’s session.
