Evanston Motorcycle Crash Claims Life Of 48-Year-Old Chicago Man

Police said impairment does not appear to be a factor in Tuesday evening's collision between a motorcycle and an SUV.

EVANSTON, IL — A motorcyclist died from injuries he suffered in a collision with an SUV Tuesday in Evanston, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Asbury Avenue, between Howard and Oakton streets, according to Evanston police.

A 48-year-old Chicago man riding a motorcycle collided with a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 32-year-old Chicago resident.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died. The SUV's driver and sole occupant was not injured in the crash.

Video footage from the scene showed a wrecked motorcycle on the road on the overpass above the CTA Yellow Line tracks between Brummel and Mulford streets.

Evanston police called in the Major Crash Assistance Team from the north suburban police task force, and traffic was disrupted on that stretch of Asbury throughout Tuesday evening in South Evanston.

Police said investigators do not believe that impairment was a factor in the crash.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office scheduled an autopsy for Wednesday on the motorcyclist, who has yet to be publicly identified.
