Evanston Woman, 80, Struck By Car, Critically Injured: Police

Police said the Skokie man who struck a pedestrian with a 1970s vintage M.G. is cooperating with investigators.

EVANSTON, IL — Police said a pedestrian was struck by a car and critically injured Tuesday afternoon on Central Street.

An 80-year-old Evanston woman was struck around 2 p.m. just east of the intersection between Central Street and Lincolnwood Drive, according to a police spokesperson, who said investigators had yet to determine the circumstances of the collision or how close she may have been to crosswalk.

The Skokie man who was driving the 1970s vintage M.G. that collided with the woman remained on scene and has cooperated with the investigation, according to police. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, where she was expected to survive.

The driver did not show any signs of impairment, police said, and any determination about whether to issue citations will be made following crash site reconstruction by the Major Crash Assistance Team of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force.

There are crosswalks on both sides of the intersection of Lincolnwood Drive and Central Street, according to 2019 images from the scene. That stretch of Central, a commercial portion of the north Evanston corridor, has a speed limit of 25 mph and a bike lane that begins immediately east of the intersection.
