Since its inception, Evanston Own It has sponsored a series of educational events and activities to encourage community involvement in reducing the amount of youth violence in Evanston. An important part of this effort is providing jobs for youth during the critical summer months when violence is more likely to occur. The group hosts an annual Evanston Sings benefit concert supporting the Mayor’s Summer Youth and Employment Program, and has raised $45,000 for the program since 2016.
Additional activities have included donating to the City’s Officer and Gentleman Academy, partnering with the Evanston Police Department to help coordinate Passion Nights, hosting community workshops and more.
