Barbara K. McCarthy, age 97, pianist, cellist and former president of the Evanston Symphony Orchestra, beloved wife of the late Daniel F. McCarthy, mother of Todd (Sasha) McCarthy and Kerry (Richard) Stilwell, and grandmother of Madeleine and Nicholas McCarthy and Justin and Tyler Stilwell, passed away peacefully at home on May 23 in Evanston.
A recipient of B.A. and M.A. degrees from Northwestern, Barbara was a prominent figure in North Shore musical life for 60 years, as longtime president of the Evanston Music Club and a member of the Winnetka Music Club.
