Mom-To-Be Will Go Off the Clock to Pump Breast Milk During Bar Exam After All

State board of admissions reconsiders its denial.

The Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar will stop the clock during February’s bar exam and allow Kristin Pagano to pump breast milk for her newborn. The board told Pagano, 27, a north suburban mother-to-be, that her appeal was approved on Tuesday. The board had earlier denied her request. She appealed, claiming the decision was discriminatory.

“This, of course, is great news,” Pagano, already licensed to practice law in California, told the Chicago Tribune in an email. “I am very happy that the board reviewed my reconsideration request and agreed to provide reasonable accommodations so that I will be able to pump and take the exam.”

She’ll be able to take a 30-minute break during each three-hour session, each day.
