Schakowsky Endorses Daniel Biss In IL-09 Congress Race
In a crowded Democratic Primary, Schakowsky's endorsement is no doubt invaluable to Biss' campaign.
EVANSTON, IL — U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky announced her endorsement of Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss to succeed her in Illinois' 9th Congressional District.
In a video statement, Schakowsky praised Biss' record and determination to fight for progressive values.
“I feel a deep responsibility to ensure our residents are represented by someone who embodies our progressive values, has a deep understanding of our community and knows how to get big things done. I am confident that Daniel Biss is that person,” Schakowsky said in a statement to Playbook, ticking off Biss’ record supporting LGBTQ+ protections, retirement savings options, environmental reparations, abortion rights and for his "stands against ICE."

Schakowsky's approval is arguably the most coveted endorsement for the race, as she has represented the district for more than 25 years before she announced her retirement last spring. In November, 17 Democrats and four Republicans filed their petitions for ballot access, making for a crowded primary.
With the primary coming up in a little over two months on March 17, Biss appears to be a frontrunner in the race, alongside commentator Kat Abughzaleh and Sen. Laura Fine.
