'No Kings' Goes For Another Round In Evanston

EVANSTON, IL — Local organizers across the nation, including Evanston, are planning a second series of "No Kings" protests for Saturday.

In Evanston, the demonstration will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at Fountain Square at 1601 Sherman Ave.

No Kings is a coalition of numerous progressive and pro-democracy organizations led and coordinated by the national organizing group Indivisible. The group spearheaded the first "No Kings" protests in June.

"In June, millions of everyday Americans from every walk of life peacefully took to the streets and declared with one voice: No Kings. The world saw the power of the people, and President Trump’s attempt at a coronation collapsed under the strength of a movement rising against his abuses of power," Indivisible wrote on its website.

This time around, organizers cited military action in communities throughout the country as part of the inspiration to go again.

At least 2,000 protests will be held Saturday in every state in the country, with demonstrations planned in most major U.S. cities, as well as in Canada and Mexico. Protests are designed to be a peaceful day of action, according to the No Kings website.

Organizers asked those who plan to attend the rally to abide by nonviolence rules. Participants will be expected to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontations.
