Oakton College and the Value of Open-Enrollment Education

Education alone isn't enough—Oakton must engage, adapt, and provide meaningful support to those it serves

As a candidate for Oakton College Trustee, I believe education is a powerful driver of economic mobility. As an open-enrollment institution that allows anyone with the basic qualifications to enroll, Oakton has the potential to transform not only individual lives but to strengthen our entire community.

Throughout my campaign, I’ve spoken directly with students, faculty, and staff about their experiences. While many shared positive stories, I was deeply concerned by accounts of students struggling to access necessary support—some even dropping out as a result. Faculty and staff also expressed that they did not feel heard by the administration, with some leaving jobs they loved due to low wages and what they described as a difficult workplace culture.

My own family is thriving thanks to an Oakton education, and I want that experience to be available to everyone in District 535. As a longtime community advocate, I know that change begins with a commitment to listen: If elected, I will prioritize bringing student, community and faculty voices to the table. Education alone isn’t enough—Oakton must engage, adapt, and provide meaningful support to those it serves.

Your vote matters; thank you for your consideration.
