Person Fatally Struck By Metra Train In Evanston

An inbound train struck and killed a person as it approached Central Street station, according to Evanston police and Metra officials.

EVANSTON, IL — A person was fatally struck by a Metra train Thursday afternoon in Evanston, halting trains in both directions on the Union Pacific North line.

Inbound train No. 342 hit and killed someone around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Livingston Street, according to police and railway spokespeople.

The portion of track where the train hit the person can only be accessed by climbing above the roadway.

The stopped train had been scheduled have originated in Waukegan at 1:05 p.m., last stopped in Wilmette at 1:49 p.m. and was due arrive at Central Street station at 1:52 p.m.

According to Metra officials, train No. 352, which had been set to depart Winnetka at 4:09 p.m., has been canceled. Shortly before 4:30 p.m., Metra officials announced trains had resumed service with extensive delays anticipated.
