Person Fatally Struck By Metra Train In Evanston
Metra trains were halted in both directions Monday morning on the UP-N Line near Central Street after someone got onto the tracks.

EVANSTON, IL — A person was fatally struck by a Metra train Monday morning in Evanston, authorities said.
An inbound Union Pacific-North Line train that departed from the Wilmette station shortly after 9 a.m. was halted after hitting someone who had gotten onto the tracks, according to police and rail officials.
The train was scheduled to arrive at the Davis Street station at 9:11 a.m. and was not scheduled to stop at Central Street, a Metra spokesperson said.

The person, who has yet to be publicly identified, was found dead by arriving police and fire crews, according to police.

Trains were halted in both directions near Central Street. Four trains were canceled in response — two inbound and two outbound — and extensive delays were expected through midday, according to Metra.

Inbound passengers will be accommodated by train No. 338, which is due to leave Waukegan at 12:05 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 1:33 p.m.
Outbound passengers can take train No. 323, which leaves the Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago at 10:32 a.m. and arrives in Waukegan at 11:51 a.m.
