Community Center Holding "Ice Cream Social" For Kids and Grandparents
Fun afternoon comes before kids turn their attention on school
Come August 1st of every year, the three most-dreaded words are those that can strike horror into the heart of the most steadfast youths: “Back To School”.
However, if you pair that with another two words, “Ice Cream”, it could put a different spin on the whole thing.
Then add Grandma and Grandpa into the mix? Now we’re talking!
To that end, the Evergreen Park Office of Citizens’ Services will host another “Grandparents and Grandkids” Ice Cream Social, taking place on Wednesday, August 10 from 2pm to 4pm at the Community Center, 3450 W. 97th Street.

“We did a similar event during Spring Break and it was so much fun for the kids and their grandparents,” said Beth Novotney, OCS Director. “We knew we had to do it again and we figured, why not in that last free week before the dreaded “S” word goes back in session?”
Families are invited to have an ice cream snack, play a board game, or have a coloring book marathon. . .crayons provided.
The event is also intended as an Open House of sorts for all the departments in the Community Center, as the Recreation Department will have some information available on coming fall programs. The Youth Department will have materials on hand to introduce kids from Grades 5-12 to the Youth Center/Game Room.
“We only have two rules with this Ice Cream Social,” Ms. Novotney continued. “Kids must be accompanied by an adult. . .and, moreso, all adults must be accompanied by a kid!”
