Warming Centers Will Be Open In Evergreen Park During Cold Snap
A cold weather advisory is in effect from Jan. 19 to Jan. 21. Here's where you can access local warming centers in the Evergreen Park area.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL — The National Weather Service has issued two cold weather advisories in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 until noon Monday. Jan. 20, and from 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, to noon Tuesday, Jan. 21, for the Evergreen Park area. Temperatures are expected to plummet to the single digits, with wind chills as low as -25 degrees. The dangerous cold can cause frostbite and hyperthermia within four minutes.
The frigid weather will arrive on Sunday night, with the coldest conditions will be Sunday night through Tuesday morning, the weather service said. Check on your elderly neighbors and if you see someone struggling in the cold on the street, call 911.
The following warming centers will be open in the Oak Lawn area if you need to get out of the cold, or just want to stop burning money in your furnace for a few hours. Monday, Jan. 20, is the federal Martin Luther King. Jr. holiday, so we recommend calling ahead to check to make sure they’re open.
