Fashion Designer Jeanine Guncheon, Forest Park, to Exhibit @ American Fine Craft Show @ Brooklyn Museum Nov. 19-20

Guncheon joins 89 artisans & fine artists @ Brooklyn Museum's landmark Beaux-Arts Court in time for holiday shopping

Fashion designer Jeanine Guncheon, Forest Park, joins 89 other artisans and artists at the fourth American Fine Craft Show at Brooklyn Museum November 19-20. She creates one-of-a-kind coats from vintage textiles.

The show is produced and curated by An American Craftsman Galleries that has supported crafts artists since 1982, longer than any other gallery in New York City, representing the work of over 500 from across the country.

Guncheon said: “I have collected textiles for 25 to 30 years. This has led directly to the designing and making of my one-of-a-kind coats.

"I sold my first coat to a fashion designer who recognized it was unlike the usual predictable sameness of coats and clothing in general, especially in the craft venue. Most are beautiful, but predictable. My fashions are not flashy, but are made with fabrics many of which are hand loomed and have timeless integrity. Indeed, many have a kind of ethnic feel.

"I prefer older high fashion patterns. I then alter the collars, cuffs, and many other aspects. Most have patches which can be purely for decor, but many have a purpose of covering holes, and also give added texture. I love the layering of fabrics. I create new ideas and designs daily—my goal was to design new and fresh looks that appeal equally to 20 year olds and 70 year olds and are easy to wear. I consider them a deconstructed fashion style."

The craft show is timed for holiday shopping but not too close to Hanukah and Christmas giving visitors the treat of taking in the magnificent current and long-term exhibitions at the Museum. Concurrent special exhibitions at Brooklyn Museum include “Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty;” “Beverly Buchanan—Ruins and Rituals;” “Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller” and a ticketed exhibition, “Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present,” $16 at the admissions desk.
