Community Rallies for Family of Boy Killed While Riding Bike
A Steger fund raiser is in the works to help the family of Lorenzo Garcia, who died Monday of injuries sustained in a July 21 accident.

A 12-year-old Steger boy hit by a car while riding his bicycle on July 21 in Chicago Heights died Monday. Community members are now rallying around his family in their time of need.
Lorenzo Garcia was struck by a car near 207th Street and Western Avenue at about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21. He died Monday at Advocate Christ Medical Center. The boy’s death was ruled an accident.
“Lorenzo was an awesome young man, a fighter and a kind-hearted giving person,” writes Rosa Toscano Acevedo, who is helping to organize a charity fund raiser for the Garcia family. “Lorenzo has touched the hearts of many and will not be forgotten. The Garcia family has decided to have Lorenzo’s organs donated to help others as Lorenzo would have wanted to continue to be giving. Now it’s our turn to give back and help the Garcia family.
