What makes your dad extra special?

My dad will be 92 in July. Our parents had five children, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. My dad tracks every birthday and anniversary. He sends texts first thing in the morning acknowledging these days. He texts all of his grandchildren regularly and calls his children throughout the week. Our mom passed away in 2011, and our sister passed the following year. We learned after Mom passed away that Dad was as much a worrier as she was, now he doesn't have her for cover. He has to be the one calling to see if we made it home safely from a trip or got through a tough storm. Our parents raised us with care and compassion. They were great examples for us and allowed us to find our own path. My dad lives alone, plays golf three times a week, and has an active social calendar. We are so fortunate to have our dad as we navigate our lives. It has been amazing seeing him develop a relationship with all of his grandchildren. Connecting with each of them individually and being a constant in their lives. I lost my last grandparent when I was 8 years old, and love seeing the bond they all have with my dad.

Why do you feel your dad deserves the spotlight?

Because throughout his life he would never seek the spotlight. He was the constant support that allowed us to succeed. He set a quiet example for us; to work hard, prioritize your family, be there for everyone, and never complain. All seven of us lived in a 1200-square-foot home with three bedrooms and just one bathroom. While we may not have had everything, we never felt that we were missing anything. Because of him, we had all that we could ever hope for.

Happy Father’s Day to Jack Leddin, and thank you for all you do!
