Lifesaving Awards Presented To Good Samaritan, Police Officers

FRANKFORT, IL — A Mokena resident and two Frankfort police officers received the recognition of a lifetime in front of a large crowd at Tuesday's Village Board of Trustees meeting. All three helped save the lives of two people in Frankfort and were presented with lifesaving awards by Frankfort Mayor Keith Ogle.

On Aug. 16, Todd Street, of Mokena, was out on Old Plank Road Trail when he came across an unresponsive person on the path in Frankfort. Street began CPR on the person until members of the Frankfort Police Department were able to arrive.

That quick action by Street, Frankfort Police Sergeant Scott Potter — who also received a lifesaving award for his action that day — and members of the Frankfort Fire Protection District helped get the unconscious person safely to the hospital.

"Mr. Street, we are grateful for your strong sense of citizenship and willingness to intervene in this incident," Ogle said. "Therefore, I would like to present this citizen lifesaving award to Mr. Todd Street on behalf of the Village of Frankfort."

Potter also responded to the Old Plank Road Trail incident with the unconscious person. Potter also provided CPR until the Frankfort Fire Department arrived, thus helping to make sure the unconscious person survived.

Frankfort Police Sergeant Kevin Johnson was recognized for his lifesaving effort during a choking incident on Oct. 12, 2019. Johnson responded to the restaurant where the person was choking and found the person unresponsive and struggling to breath. Johnson performed the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the food from the person’s throat and cleared his airway. After being checked out by the paramedics, the individual was able to go home.

"I present these lifesaving awards to Sergeant Kevin Johnson and Sergeant Scott Potter and thank them for their actions," Ogle said.

"I would also like to thank all of our officers for their service and their continued dedication to protect and serve our community," Ogle continued. "Our officers work around the clock and are always available to assist our residents and community. I would also like to acknowledge the great working relationship our police have with our fire district and area police departments making the entire Lincoln way area safer."
