Light 'Em Up: Lighting Of The Green Ceremony Set For Thursday

The annual event will include live music, carolers and more.

FRANKFORT, IL — Breidert Green in downtown Frankfort is about to get a lot more colorful come Thursday when the Village of Frankfort hosts its annual Lighting of the Green Ceremony.

Festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., according to Village officials.

But before the switches are flipped and Breidert Green is transformed into a winter wonderland of lights, live music by The Black Willow Brass Quintet, then carols led by the Hickory Creek Middle School Choir are scheduled to lead off the event, according to Village officials.

And what would the Lighting of the Green be without a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus?! Well, attendees need not worry because the Village has them booked for the special occasion, along with another holiday favorite: the Grinch.

Visitors will have the opportunity to take photos with the famous trio, as well as with Frankfort Police Department and Frankfort Fire Protection District vehicles all decked out in lights to match the occasion, according to Village officials.

The weather for Thursday is predicted to be relatively mild for December, according to the forecast from AccuWeather, which is calling for a high of 54 and a low of just 40, with partly sunny and breezy conditions and only a 6 percent chance of rain.

Even though the weather is expected to anything but frightful, the Lincoln-Way East Interact Club will be on hand to serve up complimentary hot cocoa and cookies to add to the delightful holiday ambianceof the Lighting of the Green, according to Village officials.

And the celebration doesn't end on Thursday, as the Frankfort Historical Society has a Candlelight House Walk planned for Friday, The Frankfort Chamber of Commerce will host Midnight Madness Dec. 10, and the popular Reindeer on the Green hosted by the Village is set for Dec. 11, according to Village officials.
