LW East Football Playoffs: Griffins Advance To Face Loyola

Lincoln-Way East is in the IHSA Class 8A Quarterfinals after taking care of Minooka 35-7 this past weekend.

FRANKFORT, IL — Lincoln-Way East High School took care of business Saturday against Minooka High School, walking away with the 35-7 win and earning a spot in the IHSA Class 8A Quarterfinals against Loyola Academy.

Lincoln-Way East (9-2) is headed for a rematch of the 2017-18 title game against Loyola, which the Griffins won 23-14. But, this is a new year, and Loyola (11-0) is currently the No. 1 ranked team in the state, according to MaxPreps. Lincoln-Way East is ranked No. 24 in the state.

Both teams have featured stellar defenses so far in the playoffs. Loyola has only allowed 7 points in two games — a lone score against Naperville Central High School in the last round — while Lincoln-Way East has only surrendered 13 points — Oswego East High School scored 6 points in the first round plus Minooka's 7 points against the Griffins last week — according to information on MaxPreps.

The game is scheduled for noon on Saturday in Wilmette, a home game for Loyola.

The winner will advance to the semifinals against the winner of Lockport High School/Glenbard North High School. That game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in Carol Stream.
