New Child Seat Law Takes Effect Jan. 1

Among other changes, kids younger than 2 must be in rear-facing seats.

FRANKFORT, IL — Starting Jan. 1, a new set of child safety laws will go into effect in Frankfort. The Illinois Child Passenger Protection Act already requires all kids under 8 to be in car seats, and now requires that kids under 2 are in rear facing seats.

Once a kid is 40 inches tall or weighs 40 pounds, they can sit in forward-facing seats.
