On Tyme Pickers Play Under the Trees in the Shade

Waiting for major bands at the Bluegrass on the Green Festival, the members of On Tyme took an opportunity to perfect their own brand.

While the overhead sun beat down on the stage July 13 at the Bluegrass on the Green Festival in downtown Frankfort, the members of the On Tyme band stayed cool under the shade of a tree.

The crowds were gathered at Briedert on the Green, but the members of the On Tyme band were waiting for nightfall. They were there to watch their favorites, the Boxcars and the Hillbenders, later in the evening. In the meantime, the On Tyme Band found the environment inspiring. Not only did they pack up some lawn chairs and a cooler, they brought along their instruments.

They had arrived in Frankfort ready for a day devoted to bluegrass.

Vocalist and guitar player Robert Steffey, of Aurora; guitar and mandolin player Reja Jager and husband, Bill Jager, who plays upright bass and banjo, together with guitar, fiddle and banjo player Charlie Stewart found an isolated spot to whittle away some time "pick'n."

The band has come to the Frankfort festival for the past two years. The members agreed they enjoy being with like-minded enthusiasts. The Jagers are from Newark and Stewart is from Braidwood. The festival is an opportunity for them to get together to play.
