Preserve Plans Volunteer Mornings In Frankfort

FRANKFORT, IL — With the start of a new year, the Forest Preserve District of Will County has several volunteer morning programs planned across its preserves, including in Frankfort.

The Frankfort volunteer mornings will be held at Hickory Creek Junction in Frankfort Township on Feb. 10 and March 9. All volunteer mornings are held from 9 a.m. to noon, and volunteers will help with brush control, according to the preserve.

Space is limited, and registration is required. To get started, complete a waiver online.

Volunteers should wear clothes appropriate for the weather, getting dirty and being near a fire. Long pants, sturdy shoes and socks covering the ankles are recommended. Bringing water and snacks is also recommended.

Here is a look at the rest of the volunteer dates in the first few months of the year:

• Jan. 15: Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Theodore Marsh, Crest Hill
• Jan. 30: Monee Reservoir in Monee Township
• Feb. 4: Sugar Creek Preserve, Joliet
• Feb. 15: Hickory Creek Barrens, New Lenox Township
• Feb. 24: Hadley Valley – Gougar Access, Joliet
• Feb. 27: Evans-Judge Preserve, Custer Township
• March 3: Riverview Farmstead Preserve, Naperville
• March 12: Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve, Crete Township (Fence removal)
• March 23: Lake Chaminwood Preserve, Troy Township.

Work will take place on uneven terrain that is primarily natural surface, the preserve said. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this workday should mention their request when registering or submit a request online.
