Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northeast Will County

The National Weather Service warns that severe thunderstorms could strike the Lincoln-Way communities.

The National Weather Service is warning that severe thunderstorms could hit Frankfort. Storms are headed for Cook, Will, Grundy and Kankakee Counties any time this afternoon and throughout the night.

The hazardous weather outlook calls for frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy rain and flash flooding. NWS said there is an expectation of gusty winds and small hail.

Chances are better for thunderstorms later in the evening when "an upper level wave is expected to cross the area," according to NWS. North Central and North Eastern Illinois are expected to get "multiple rounds of storms," which could lead to flash flooding.
