Smokey Barque Adding Brewery, Will Reopen With New Name, Menu

The Frankfort barbecue restaurant will be called Trail's Edge at Smokey Barque when it reopens.

FRANKFORT, IL — Smokey Barque in downtown Frankfort is remodeling, and the interior won't be the only changes with the business once the renovations are finished. The restaurant will be called Trail's Edge at Smokey Barque, and it will now feature a brewery to go along with its new name.

Remodeling began in early January, and the barbecue restaurant, 20 Kansas St., will remain closed for the rest of the month. Previously planned banquets and other events, such as Friday's dueling pianos concert, are still happening, though.

Once it reopens as Trail's Edge, the restaurant will have new menu items for customers to sample. Some of the additions include calamari, truffle fries and shrimp taquitos, according to a message on its Facebook page. But the owners are assuring their regulars that it won't be abandoning its signature barbecue dishes, such as pulled pork, brisket and ribs.

"We are working on a new & improved menu!" the Facebook page states. "Some old favorites will stay but we'll make room for new exciting items!"

No date has been set for the opening of Trail's Edge at Smokey Barque, but the restaurant hopes to show off its new look and menu by early February.

And for dog owners who enjoyed bringing their pets while eating in the restaurant's outdoor, open-air patio, don't worry that the changes will mean canines will no longer be allowed in that area when the weather warms up.

"We look forward to visits from our furry friends!" the restaurant told a customer online.
